t appears that Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is no longer exclusive
to Google Nexus devices. Asus announced today that an
over-the-air (OTA) update for the Transformer
Pad 300 is available
now in the US. The company intends to roll out the update in more
countries later this month.
Besides the usual bug fixes, performance gains, and a number
of must-have features, only the
tablet version of Android 4.2 includes support for multiple user
account logins.
The Transformer Pad 300 features a keyboard dock accessory
that turns it into a laptop. A number of other Asus
tablets--Transformer Pad Infinity, MeMO Pad Smart 10 and MeMO Pad--are
slated to get the Android 4.2 update in Q2.
Interestingly, the new Asus devices at the recent Mobile World
Congress--the Asus
Fonepad and PadFone
Infinity--were running the older Android 4.1.2. It remains to
be seen if they will be loaded with the latest Android OS when they go
on sale in the coming weeks. We're checking with Asus on the
availability of the OTA update for the Transformer Pad 300 in this
region.
