Cissy Houston Not OK with Whitney Houston Gay Rumors
Well, for someone who has firm opinions against the rumors of her daughter's alleged lifestyle, Cissy Houston, mother of Whitney Houston has a lot of opinions on that life. A lot. The Houston patriarch sat down with Queen of Pretty Much Everything, Oprah Winfrey to discuss those feelings, and pretty much out her daughter by not denying the rumors that Whitney had a relationship with her long-rumored assistant-turned-creative-director-turned lover. Like mothers often do, Houston the elder had many opinions about how her daughter handled her personal life. Turns out? not only did Houston not approve of Whitney's ex-husband Bobby Brown, but she had less-than-complimentary words for Robyn Crawford as well.
When it came to those gay rumors that dogged Whitney and Crawford, Winfrey did not mince words. When asked if she thought Whitney was gay, Houston only said "I don't know." But what if, Oprah wondered. "Would it have bothered you if your daughter, Whitney, was gay?" Without hesitation, Houston replied, "absolutely." Cue the shock and, possibly, a bit of horror in Winfrey's face.
Winfrey continued to push Houston on her stance — perhaps because of Winfrey's accepting nature, or because similar Sapphic rumors have dogged Winfrey and her best friend Gayle King for years. Either way, Winfrey was getting to the bottom of Houston's true feelings. "You would not have liked that?" Oprah asked. "Not at all," Houston responded. And just for horse-beating, are-you-sure-you-got-that purposes, Winfrey clarified once more with Houston, asking if she "wouldn't have condoned" a relationship between Whitney and Crawford, to which Houston replied again with a staunch "no."
But was it all due to her daughter's potential sexual preference? Not necessarily. It seems as though Houston had more of an issue with Crawford in particular. "…I didn't particularly like her. She just spoke too much. Disrespectful sometimes, like she had something over Nippy [nickname for Whitney], and I didn't like that at all. She was all right, she turned out to be all right, I guess. That was her friend." Check out the full video, below.

In Houston's new book, Remembering Whitney, her exact words on the matter are "I knew I didn't want Robyn around my daughter, and I told [Whitney] that. There wasn't much I could do though. [Whitney] liked Robyn. She was past the age when I could forbid her from seeing someone. Kids have a mind of their own when they get older. They want to experiment with all kinds of things. And I don't know if it was more than that."
What do you think of Houston's revelation? Do you believe Whitney and Crawford had a romantic relationship? Is it anybody's business, especially after her death? Let us know in the comments!
