A woman had her thumb bitten off during a row with her boyfriend, according to police in Florida.
Ricardo Marquis Davis, 35, apparently then spat out the digit on the floor of his car during the couple's fight.
Police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez told FloridaToday.com: "He was driving to work, she works at a Taco Bell in Palm Bay.
“During the course of the drive down to work, they got into a verbal argument, and she basically became upset.
"She kind of pushed his head, and he responded by biting (her thumb).
“He bit it completely off and spit it out on the floorboard.”
Ms Martinez said the woman went to a medical centre for treatment and repeatedly told nurses "I can’t believe he bit my finger off".
Doctors were unable to reattach the thumb.
Davis, who has apparently admitted biting off the thumb, is being held in jail on a charge of aggravated battery.
