OK, let's get one thing straight: we'll never question Twilight's worldwide box-office and fan supremacy. Clearly, it is a phenomenon not to be messed with. But when we got a glimpse of the latest trailer for the movie version of bestselling YA novel Beautiful Creatures, we envisioned Bella, Edward, and Jacob cowering in the corner, waiting for these nasty (and nice!) witches to fly away.
From Ridley Duchannes's (Emmy Rossum) devilish eyes to Mrs. Lincoln's (Emma Thompson) foreboding voice, Beautiful Creatures has a lot going for it in terms of villains (villainesses?). And do-gooder Macon Ravenwood (Jeremy Irons) has a majestic presence that just can't be matched. Sorry, Dr. Carlisle Cullen (Peter Facinelli).
And what about the heroines? Bella Swan is beautiful, and, now that she's a vampire, can kick butt with the best of them. But Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert) was born a powerful caster, one that could even have vampire Bella heading for the hills.
Now, let's talk about the male leads. This is clearly where Twilight has Beautiful Creatures beat. Mortal Ethan Wate is no match for sexually-charged bloodsucker Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), right?
