Google starts rolling out Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

MOBILE SOFTWARE DEVELOPER Google has started rolling out Android 4.2.2 to its Nexus branded devices.

Google confirmed

to The INQUIRER this morning that it is rolling out Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean to devices including the Google Nexus 4 and Samsung Nexus 10.

Unfortunately, there's nothing too exciting to report, as the update provides mainly performance and stability fixes, and allegedly fixes a bug related to streaming music over a Bluetooth connection.

The update is being rolled out gradually to devices, so there's no need to panic if it hasn't popped up on your Nexus smartphone or tablet yet. Google was unable to give us any more information about the rollout.

It's not surprising that the update doesn't deliver many new features, as Google is widely expected to announce the next major release of its Android mobile operating system, which is likely to be named Android 5.0, at its Google I/O conference in May.

It's still unclear what Android 5.0 will deliver, but speculation suggests that we'll be seeing a Google Now widget, improved support for multiple accounts and a tweaked user interface.

Google's I/O conference might also see the launch of new Nexus branded devices from the company, but the firm said it isn't able to comment on rumours.
